Erectile Dysfunction

Posted by admin on November 16th, 2009

A man’s penis is comprised mostly of a complex network of vascular tissue. This tissue is in turn controlled by the nervous system, and heavily influenced by the endocrine system.
Erectile Dysfunction is an extremely common condition that affects many men. ED is defined as the inability to have an erection or to sustain an erection long enough to engage in sexual activity. There are two types of problems that can cause ED, Psychological/emotional problems and physical/physiological problems. Either way, at RNMS, we understand that no matter what the cause, there are profound psychological and physical reactions that a man experiences if afflicted with ED. It can be very stressful and anxiety provoking for a man when he is unable to perform, which in turn makes the condition worse.
Working with your doctor to determine the cause of your ED is an important first step in overcoming it. If its psychological in origin conventional medicine would have you talk to a psychologist or counselor, and quite possibly take anti-depressants or anti-anxiety medications. If the problem is physical, a medication like Viagra, Cialis, or Levitra is usually prescribed.
At RNMS your ED will be treated holistically by a Naturopathic doctor.
