Bio-Impedance Analysis; the numbers behind the numbers

Posted by Dr. Anita M. Larrow, ND on February 14th, 2012

Bio-impedance analysis (BIA) is a painless electrical test that calculates:

  • lean mass
  • fat mass
  • basal metabolic rate
  • caloric needs
  • hydration

When it comes to performance it is ALL about the numbers.  How much weight are you lifting? What is your mile time split? And so on and so on………..

The BIA gives your doctor numbers to track your improvement and to support you and your performance goals. Lean body mass plays a large role in our basal metabolic rate, and therefore is one of the major components that I look at when going over the results of the BIA with my patients.  My focus is to help patients increase their lean body mass, while lowering the fat mass and improving overall body composition.

Using the information gleaned from the BIA; our doctors are able to determine the best combination of diet and exercise to fit your lifestyle, weight loss, and performance goals.

What I really like about the BIA is that fact that it gives me more information about my patient’s weight. I can see the numbers BEHIND the pounds. It allows me to help my patients see what exercise can do for their numbers.  Using this tool I have seen people change percent body fat significantly in less than 2 months.

Do you know you know the numbers behind your number? If you want to know more call for a free 15 minute consultation 916-351-9355 or if you are a patient as your doctor for your numbers.
